It is a mixed platform: alongside straightforward donation fundraising it supports reward-based pledges, where backers receive something in return, as well as community share offers and dedicated charity fundraising.

Funds are handled by FCA-regulated payment processors, Stripe for donations and pledges and MangoPay with additional KYC checks for match funding. Creators can choose between two funding models: All-or-Nothing, where money is only released if the target is met by the deadline and supporters are otherwise refunded, and Flexible Funding, where the creator keeps what they raise but must still fulfil any rewards pledged.

Crowdfunder's distinctive strength is match funding: its +Extra programme can unlock grants from corporate, public-sector, and charitable partners that top up or match money raised, which makes it particularly attractive to community and social-impact projects. The trade-offs are its UK focus, since payouts require a UK bank account, and the breadth of campaign types, which can be confusing for first-time creators choosing between donations, pledges, and shares.
