Produzioni dal Basso is one of Italy's oldest crowdfunding platforms, operating since 2005 and presenting itself as the country's first. It is a generalist, reward- and donation-based platform that applies no entry filters, hosting projects from social and cultural initiatives to start-ups, events, and personal fundraising.

The platform is run by FolkFunding srl Benefit, an Italian benefit corporation, and processes payments through PayPal and Lemonway, for which FolkFunding acts as a regulated payment agent. Campaigners choose among three funding modes — keep-it-all (raccogli tutto), all-or-nothing (tutto o niente), and a simple-donation mode — with a platform commission that varies by mode plus the chosen payment provider's own processing costs; the platform states its commissions are VAT-inclusive.

Its strengths are longevity, breadth, and flexibility: a long track record, an open-door policy on project types, three funding models, and co-financing programs that can unlock additional partner funds once a campaign reaches a threshold. The trade-offs are that the platform is Italy-centric and euro-denominated, and that the open, generalist approach means less curation than niche platforms. For Italian associations, cultural projects, and social entrepreneurs it is a versatile home; for cross-border fundraisers it offers limited international reach.

Supported payment options include PayPal, cards (Visa, Mastercard, PostePay), and bank transfer via Lemonway, all in euros. Beyond core fundraising, the platform runs PDB Studio, an academy offering courses and mentorship on campaign design, and partners with public and private bodies on matching and co-financing initiatives for territorial and social-innovation projects.
